Marvel Snap‘s meta has gone through quite a few slumps. We’ve been plagued by Galactus, Alioth, and now Blob, and there’s always one particular card that’s at the center of it all: Professor X.

With this week’s OTA update, Professor X is finally getting a small slap on the wrist, though it’s worth noting that his core ability remains the same. Aside from X, a few other cards have also gotten small nerfs, including Viper, Werewolf by Night, Black Widow, and more.

Ever since Second Dinner announced the flexible Series drop system for Marvel Snap, things have felt dire, to say the least. We’ve not seen any Series drops in nearly a year, and the studio only spoke up about it a couple months back to state that there would be more news coming before the end of 2023.

Well, the news is finally here, and we’ll be getting some downgrades with the patch coming in early January. Here are all the Series drops that are happening on Jan. 9, 2024:

Glitches are just a part of gaming, but there are different levels. The best are the helpful glitches that give you an unintended edge, but those aren’t great for multiplayer.

The worst is when a glitch only gives your opponent the edge, and only you suffer. Call of Duty Warzone is currently experiencing the latter in the new Urzikstan map that arrived with Season 1 that everyone should know about.

A24 has risen in prominence in the last few years, putting out quality films like Hereditary, Midsommar, Lady Bird, and Uncut Gems, just to name a few. On the other side of the coin, video game developer and industry auteur Hideo Kojima is a huge film buff, and it’s widely known that he enjoys A24’s works as well. With all that in mind, the A24 adaptation of Death Stranding seems like a happy marriage.

Kojima Productions and A24 announced today that the studio would be adapting Death Stranding into a live-action movie.

The Last of Us came with a pretty fun and unique multiplayer mode in the form of Factions, and when The Last of Us Part II released, much of the player base was excited to see how Naughty Dog would iterate on an existing formula. We’d gotten a few updates over the past couple years, but as of today, the studio has officially decided to stop development on The Last of Us Online.

Essentially, while Naughty Dog was happy with the way things were progressing with the game, the vision for The Last of Us Online had become so massively ambitious that would require a lot of time and resources for the years to come. Things had gotten to a point where the company had to decide to either continue focusing their efforts on creating single-player games, or become a live service studio that focused on The Last of Us Online.

It’s no secret that The Day Before has had a tumultuous development cycle long before its early access launch on Steam. The game suffered from multiple delays and hiccups, but it finally made it to its early access release date last week. However, less than a week after its official launch, developing studio Fntastic has announced the studio’s closure.

Without a doubt, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been the talk of the town at least as far as the video game industry is concerned this year. Developed by Larian Studios, best known for making Divinity: Original Sin, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a DND-style RPG and it’s been lauded by critics across the board for its fantastic story and characterization.

The RPG swept up a whole ton of awards at The Game Awards 2023, and as you might’ve already guessed, it won the award of the night as well, the much coveted Game of the Year award. As usual, the announcement was preceded by a fantastic medley by the TGA orchestra, and the award was presented by actor Timothee Chalamet, who appeared in Dune, and is set to star in the upcoming Willy Wonka movie as well.

After working on No Man’s Sky for years, it seems Hello Games is finally ready to start on a new adventure and a new project. At The Game Awards today, Sean Murray took the stage to announce their new game, titled Light No Fire. You can check out the trailer for yourself down below.

Unlike No Man’s Sky, Light No Fire is a fantasy game set on Earth, and will feature multiplayer elements where players get to team up to explore the world and fight off various monsters. The game will also feature multiple biomes. It’s clear that Light No Fire uses the same engine as No Man’s Sky, and some of the environments might look a little familiar, but it’s clear that the vibe is going to be completely different.

Marvel is immovable, unflinching, it’s not going anywhere as far as the cultural zeitgeist is concerned. And while the video game scene for Marvel has been a little hit or miss in the past few years, this new announcement from Arkane Lyon and Bethesda has us excited. At The Game Awards this week, Arkane Lyon announced that they were currently working on a brand new Blade game.

The Mana series has a new entry on the way for the first time in 15 years in the form of Visions of Mana, and Square Enix has released a reveal trailer teasing what it has in store.

Streamed during the 2023 Game Awards, the trailer provides a quick look at the general aesthetic of the title through bits of gameplay, story cutscenes, and cryptic bits of on-screen dialogue. The graphics style is also on full display, with the game looking like a touched-up version of the more recent entries and remakes put out for the series in recent years.

God of War Ragnarok captivated fans of the Nordic action-adventure franchise everywhere upon its release late last year, and just as the game has passed its first anniversary, the team at Santa Monica Studio has debuted a trailer showing an upcoming DLC that is not only right around the corner, it’s completely free for everyone.

The DLC in question is to be called God of War Ragnarok – Valhalla, and judging by the vibrant trailer shown at this year’s Game Awards, it’s set to be a incredible-looking gauntlet of epic battles against some truly fearsome mythical creatures, certainly something that Kratos is no stranger to by now.

It wouldn’t be a real Game Awards ceremony without at least a mention of Hideo Kojima himself, who has since put out Death Stranding after leaving Konami and opening his new studio, Kojima Productions. The new game in question is titled OD, and yeah, it’s a weird one as you might expect.

Supermassive Games is known for creating immersive, cinematic horror games. On the flipside of that, Behaviour Interactive is best known for working on Dead by Daylight, a multiplayer 4v1 horror game where the survivors must work together to outwit a killer. Put these two studios together, and you get a brand new project in the form of a new cinematic horror game set within Dead by Daylight’s universe.

RPG fans have something to look forward to because the successor to the Persona series is here. The Game Awards has given us a jam-packed trailer for Atlus’ Metaphor: ReFantazio and it looks amazing.

The Team Behind Persona

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a new RPG from the creators of Persona 3, 4, and 5. The lead game designer behind our favorite Persona games, Katsura Hashino, went to work on this very game right after Persona 5. You may recognize the stylish art style as well. Persona artist, Shigenori Soejima, is in charge of visuals with Metaphor. And the music will no doubt resonate with Persona fans with Shoji Meguro taking composer responsibility. With so much talent and legacy behind it, what will it be like?

The last time we saw Ikumi Nakamura at The Game Awards, she unveiled Ghostwire Tokyo from Bethesda and Tango Gameworks, and made quite the impression on the audience. After departing Tango Gameworks, she founded a new studio called Unseen, and this year, she’s ready to unveil her new project, titled Kemuri.

The Game Awards have been definitely giving up the goods this year, as one of this year’s biggest hits is set to collab with another water-based game. That’s right, Dave the Diver and Dredge will be combining forces in an experience coming Dec. 15. I definitely couldn’t think of two games I would rather mash together from this year than these two. The new content will be coming to PC as well as Nintendo Switch, and thankfully very soon.

The underwater 2D adventure will break the surface for 3D. You’ll get to pilot a fish trawler in a ship as you get to interact with new characters. There will still be plenty of diving, but Dave will have just as much reason to journey on land once more. It is definitely content being added to Dave the Diver rather than new Dredge content that brings in Dave which I think honestly works better.

If you ever thought that the amazing Dead Cells by developers Motion Twin would work better as a 3D game, then you are in luck. At The Game Awards 2023, the studio revealed its latest project in the form of Windblown, a lightning fast roguelike positioned as a “hyperactive, sugar-rushed” sibling to Dead Cells.

Players will take on the role of one of the Leapers, heroes who are tasked with the unenviable mission of defending the Ark, a floating village that orbits around a dangerous and threatening Vortex. Needless to say, that peace isn’t going to last very long. However, you can absorb the memories of fallen warriors and infuse their skills into your weapons, giving yourself a fighting chance against the invading Sentinels.

Look, it may be a remake of an old PS2 game, but it’s still one of my most highly anticipated video game releases of 2024. Persona 3 Reload got a brand new trailer at The Game Awards 2023, and it still looks good. You can check out the trailer for yourself down below:

The trailer shows off plenty of Tartarus footage, where the characters get to fight Shadows and engage them in turn-based RPG combat. We also catch a glimpse of school life in Gekkoukan High, as well as the social link conversations with Nozomi and Akinari.

Daniel Mullins is perhaps best known for making Inscryption, the indie hit that took the internet by storm two years ago with its fourth wall-breaking shenanigans, and genre-bending gameplay mechanics. What most people may not know is that before Inscryption, he released another metafictional game called Pony Island.

Larian Studios knows just how much their fanbase loves to see stats, and they showed off on Twitter/X for everyone to see. Of those stats were things like completed playthroughs, dinosaurs encountered and how many people have been turned into a wheel of cheese, but Larian also revealed the number of people who’ve tried Honour mode and beaten it.

While Larian’s main tweet didn’t dive into the weekend stats, they followed up in the replies with a breakdown of how the weekend went for those brave adventurers who dove right into Patch 5 and wanted to try the new difficulty out for themselves. As it turns out, it has not gone exceptionally well for Baldur’s Gate 3 players, and that’s exactly as intended.
