The Final’s second live patch is its biggest so far and with it comes a variety of buffs, nerfs, and changes worth exploring. So, with that said, here are some of the highlights we can look forward to in patch 1.4.0 of The Finals.

Abilities

Right off the bat are the balance changes around Abilities, specifically the Heavy’s Mesh Shield health being reduced by 150hp to 1100. In my eyes, this only makes the Heavy’s other Abilities like Charge and Slam even more enticing with how purely defensive the directional Mesh Shield is. You may be better off rolling with the Dome Shield and using the Charge or Goo Gun.

House Flipper 2 on PC

Let me start off by saying I’m not usually the kind of person to play, let alone enjoy, the kind of simulation games that gamify a difficult and work-heavy concept. Enter House Flipper 2, a game that makes the hard work of cleaning and renovating homes an honest-to-god relaxing and enjoyable experience. House Flipper 2 accomplishes this by simplifying the actions of everything you do.

Normally, scrubbing clean almost every interior surface of your house would take hours, if not days. On the flip side, House Flipper 2 makes such a chore quite chill by only demanding you aim at the dirty smudge and press a button. Waiting for the task’s completion over a few seconds is the only difficulty involved. Even then, the perks you unlock for each varied task only helps to improve the speed at which you renovate a house.

Another month passes and a new first-person shooter is released to the masses. Except The Finals is actually something special. Let me tell you why.

The Finals, created by Embark Studios, is one of two games the company is currently working on. Made up of ex-DICE developers, Embark Studios have taken some of the best aspects of the best Battlefield games and integrated them into a virtual destructive game show. When you first boot up The Finals, you’re presented with making a character from one of three body types: Light, Medium, and Heavy.

Both of these games have quite a few things in common, with scares, co-op, and humorous happenings being what punctuates moment to moment gameplay. However, one must rule above the other, so let us discuss Lethal Company vs Phasmophobia: which is better?

But that’s not all because Dragon’s Breath’s munitions would leave behind a solar flare that acts much like Destiny 2’s Solar Grenade.

Destiny 2 players haven’t seen a new enemy faction since the Forsaken expansion over five years ago. There is a reason why players hold Forsaken as a prime example of what an expansion should be, and that reason is why Destiny 2 needs a new enemy faction more than ever.

Every year since Forsaken, players have been clamoring for a new race of foes to challenge themselves against. Unfortunately, for the past five years, we have had nothing but reskinned versions of what we’ve been battling against since the start of Destiny 1. At this point, I’m sure some of the community would even enjoy another kind of Taken faction that takes the enemies we know and fundamentally changes them to feel very different. Sadly, none of that has been or looks to be a thing.

It seems the Crucible Strike Team have been hard at work and continue to do so even amidst troubles at Bungie. Thankfully, Season 23’s massive list of crucible tweaks and changes are a step in the right direction for the PvP community.

Bungie’s Crucible Strike Team has continued to work diligently to satisfy the needs of their community. Part of all that they’ve been working on is coming in Destiny 2’s season 23, Season of the Wish. That said, Bungie is still iterating on the changes they made in Season 22 and so we should expect back-and-forth adjustments. It’s good to see that after Bungie’s layoffs that the Crucible Strike Team seems to still be in a healthy enough position to still deliver on their vision of a better, healthier Crucible.

10. Sealed Ahamkara Grasps

Perk-wise, these gauntlets give you the ability to reload your weapon whenever you deal melee damage. Even better is that powered melee final blows will reload every weapon in your inventory on top of greater mobility, jump height, and airborne effectiveness for five seconds after melee damage. You might think that as a Strand Hunter, these would work well with the Hunter’s homing Threaded Spike melee. Unfortunately, between the perk’s seven-second cooldown and the Exotic arms not benefiting Strand Hunters in other ways that elevate the subclass’s strengths, these are at the bottom of the list.

Destiny 2 recently had an update that implemented quitter protection for Trials matches that start with missing players. While we will cover that more in a bit, Bungie still needs to address its PvP quitter issue.

So, in the game’s recent 7.2.5.3 update, quitter protection was implemented for Trials at the start of the match. What this means exactly is that if you have a missing member or two at the start of the match, you will be allowed to quit and matchmake again without incurring the normal penalty for quitting a Trials match. This is fantastic news for all those players who suffered and still do suffer from a connection error named after a particular animal.

Embrace Randomly Generated Content

One of the downsides of Destiny 2’s completely hand-crafted content is that, eventually, you run into the issue of the content needing to eventually be vaulted.

New Endgame Pinnacle Dungeon Event

Called Abattoir of Zir, these new pinnacle dungeons, by far, represent some of the most challenging content in Diablo 4. Functionally, they are very similar to how Greater Rifts work in Diablo 3. Specifically, Diablo 3 veterans will notice the need to kill a certain amount of monsters in a Nightmare Dungeon while a timer ticks down. If they succeed, then a boss will spawn. Once slain, we hope the boss will become a literal loot fountain as they did in Diablo 3.

Patch 1.2.2 drops on November 7th and introduces five new Unique rings, one for each class. Each ring’s Unique effect is inspired by effects from Season of the Malignant. On the patch notes, the developers left a note saying these rings were a way to borrow some of the more popular first season content that players enjoyed and reintroduce it in the next season and Eternal realm.

On the 30th of October 2023, the gaming community at large began to hear that Bungie was laying off some of its staff. These kinds of things happen sadly, and often depending on the studio and their success. What rubs me the wrong way here is that it’s Bungie suffering the layoffs. We’re talking about a many multi-million-dollar successful developer suffering layoffs, under the watch and support of Sony—a multi-billion-dollar company.

Endless Creativity in the Hands of Players is Always Good

As players easily and quickly consume each season’s content, a mode in which players could make their own would be ideal. Most players tend to grind Destiny 2’s PvE content, so it just makes sense for there to be a way to expand upon that. Additionally, this would be a two-fold benefit for players. They not only get to enjoy a nearly infinite amount of new content, but the time spent making such creative set pieces can be enjoyable in itself!

Dungeon Lords

For a somewhat older RPG from the early 2010s, this title doesn’t look much better than the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. However apt that visual comparison may be, you could also say that Dungeon Lords could hold the same RPG potential that early Elder Scrolls titles did. Not only could THQ Nordic majorly overhaul the game’s aging graphics, world, and quests but improve upon everything else the game already does well, like the RPG systems with advanced class selection.
