With it being an always-online game, there’s always the chance that Fortnite’s servers can go down. But how long will they be down for, what’s caused the issue, and how can you check the official Fortnite server status according to developer and publisher Epic Games? Let’s dig in.

Are Fortnite Servers Down?

At around 5:00 PM ET on Dec. 21, players started to report on Downdetector that they were unable to matchmake or log in. While the Status Page for Fortnite didn’t show anything major, the Fortnite Status Twitter account does acknowledge there was a problem. However, it should be smoothing out, and things should be fixed up completely soon.

Players who were affected might’ve also been seeing the Fortnite Servers Not Responding error.

This was largely a Battle Royale issue, so LEGO Fortnite users probably weren’t affected or noticed there was any problem.

If there are any further developments from this, we will be sure to update this guide and let you know.

How to Check Fortnite Server Status

To get up-to-date information on the status of Fortnite’s servers, you’ll want to head to the Fortnite server status page. At the time of writing, it states that the servers are down for scheduled maintenance and that Epic will be providing updates as necessary.

On this page, you’ll find a complete breakdown of all Epic Games servers and service statuses. In the screenshot below, you can see that Fortnite’s downtime for the 28.01.01 update has officially finished. As such, Game Services, Login, Matchmaking, Voice Chat, and just about every service related to the game outside of the website is currently down for maintenance.

Hopefully, this clears up whether or not Fortnite is down. For more on the game, check out our related articles below. Otherwise, stay keyed to Twinfinite for all the latest coverage as it happens.
